What kind of racing? But sure, they are good for x-country, but not downhill of course.Also make sure you check out the Crank Brother's line of pedals. For x-country, nothing beats the Egg Beaters or Candy's.

Shimano XT RD-M770/M771 Rear Derailleur

The GS is a mid cage model and is designed to work with up to a 33 teeth rear cassette. The SGS is the long cage model and is designed to work with up to a 42 teeth rear cassette.If you're new to MTB and shifting, go with the long cage as you'll probably cross-shift a lot. Otherwise go with the mid-cage which is what most people run IMHO.

I had two cassettes and bent a cog on each one. And yes I know how to shift and I take care of my gear. But broken parts come with the territory on MTB. If my new one breaks, I will buy another one. I highly recommend this disk break set. The oil is a little spendy but what are you going to do. I have the full 2008 XT groupo and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend any of it.
