Some people say you could have two pair of shoes for the price of a pair of Sidi's. We say the Italians at Sidi craft bicycling shoes three times better than anyone else. The Dominator 5's hand-stitched Lorica synthetic leather molds to your foot just like the real thing, but stands up to abrasion, water, and the test of years like solid granite. Cooling mesh inserts expel hot air like politicians during an election year, and the stiff composite midsole transmits power precisely while flexing just enough to make a 24-hour enduro feel like a spin around the block. One-hand adjustable ratchets allow you to adjust your instep fit without even clipping out, and Sidi's patented High Security straps have interlocking plastic teeth to keep them from slipping mid-hammer.
Bottom Line: The Dominator 5 MTB shoe—in a word, it dominates.
these shoes are the best mtn bike shoes i've ever worn. i have used them in adventure races where we ride and then shoulder our bikes and bushwhack for hours and hours, etc. there is just enough grip in the tread to get away with some off road treking. i made the mistake of buying a super small size - since i'm a race geek that made sense. i then started to race 24hr mtn bike racing and i bought another pair for the "just in case" during a race. my first pair ares still in rotation. i'm kind of amazed they are still alive after 6+ years of hard racing. i think they are a touch narrow, so if you have a wide foot try them on first.
This is my first pair of Sidis, coming off of a pair of Shimanos that I had for 8 years. They are really comfy, and fit my narrow foot perfect.
Buckle is a little difficult to fine tune while riding, but I think I am getting the hang of it. Sometimes some weeds/flora/fauna get up in the buckle and make it difficult to undo, but once you figure out whats going on, it is easy to solve.
Only gripe on my end is the cheap insole in the shoe, plan on replacing that, which adds more cash, but is worth it.
This is my second pair of Sidis and I love them! My first pair are about 11 years old and have seen many, many, many miles. It was finally time to replace them and I had doubt I was getting Sidis. I would recommend this shoe to anyone. I use them on my mountain and road bikes and wouldn't want anything else.
trash a pair of shoes in 5 days? I love these shoes! they fit like a sweet italian slipper. great shaped last. love the closure system, they can be micro adjusted to fit the way you want them, and they stay that way all ride.
if you ride like powder addict, then maybe you need a pair of combat boots. but if you are in to a great fit, great feel, great hookup to the bike, then these italian made beauties are just the ticket.
I mountain bike and road bike, but I spend even more time around town on my fixie, and this shoe is perfect. Comfortable and stiff, durable. I can ride my bike anywhere, get off, and walk around in these shoes. Obviously they are prime for mountain biking as well. Stay away from the mesh versions of Sidi shoes, half the quality, less support, and the performance is lacking.
Rode 20 very fast miles today with my New Sidi's and they are like buttah! I purchased them in part from the reviews on Backcountry. No break in and micro adjustments make them very comfortable...And if they are good enough Ivan Basso then they are good enough for me:-)
I've busted up a lot of mountain bike shoes mainly because I've always purchased the cheapest ones I could find in order to save a few bucks. But the mantra, "you get what you pay for" is all too true, especially with these shoes. Despite the price being roughly double what most other shoes go for, they are well worth the price. They are durable, comfortable and not too hot to wear, even though they are leather. I just got back from a weekend of tough desert riding in Fruita and they performed really well. One word of caution: I had to go a half-size bigger than normal but it could be because I have one foot that is bigger than the other.
If you trash these shoes in five days like powder addict, you are doing more in a work-week than I can in 3 seasons. Sidi makes the best shoes, with the best fit, bar none. I purchased Yaktrax heat-moldable footbeds this year because I have very high arches, but other than that these are the best XC shoes I've ever ridden and I beat up on them pretty hard. My only request would be to give all Sidi's the replaceable sole option, so you can keep the same pair forever.
I'm on my 3rd pair of Dominators over 15 years and I've never been disappointed. They are very durable, have a stiff sole, and have some nice micro-adjustments for a nice fit. I have a pretty narrow foot and wear a 10 in most street shoes- the size 44 fits perfect.
These shoes are fantastic! They are highly adjustable, stiff, and bombproof. As some other reviewers have mentioned they do run a smidgen on the narrow side, but even with my slightly wider forefoot and weird feet, these shoes fit like a pair of fine slippers. Amazing shoes that do the trick on any and all terrain providing amazing power transfer to the pedals. Hands down the best biking shoes I have ever worn!
Trashed a pair in 5 days out in Moab. The fit is fantastic and they breathe very well, but they are just too fragile for mountain biking. I would expect more durability for the price.
