Shimano America XTR 9-Speed Chain

The Shimano XTR 9-Speed Chain's precision construction ensures quick shifts and reduces the chances of binding at the worst moments. Shimano used a zinc-alloy plating on the XTR Chain to reduce corrosion and increase lifespan.

Bottom Line: Your drivetrain is the heart of your bike, so don't take any chances. Get yourself the Shimano XTR Chain.

Shimano cn-7701

This is hands down the best 9 speed chain you can buy for your bike. Install it properly (read the directions carefully and use the installation pin) and you will get strength superior to all other 9 speed chains on the market. Yes the SRAM pc-991 hollowpin may be a little lighter, but it has nowhere near the strength, durability, or smooth shifting of the 7701. I would get 4 months tops out of a 991 (with several broken powerlinks during those months) while I get almost a full year out of the 7701 with no broken links. I will never run anything else.

Shift gear like a Ferrari

Crisp and quick. It feels light and strong. I have three of them in line whenever I do 12 hour races here at Socal. I use Sram powerlinks for quick removal and installation.

I have a Cannondale Warrior 500 with a Shimano chain on it that allegedly wore out after 2500 miles. The Links have EF HG and VIA on them. Is that the right chain for that bike? meaderobe@gmail.com

The main issue is that the chain that Chenango Point put on that bike had the inscriptions; "EF, HG, & VIA" on the links. It was a CN-HG53 chain that may have belonged on the bike; but the inscriptions on the links probably indicate that version of that chain was obsolete when my bike was made, for new chains seem to only have an "HG" inscription on all links. Does that chain belong on that bike?

Very smooth

I haven't tried a lot of chains and I used this to replace a chain that was in very poor shape. So, I can't be too hard to please. Nevertheless, this chain feels very smooth and I haven't had any problems with it.

Great chain.

This chain doubles as a 9speed DuraAce chain. Works great. I put a Sram quicklink in and it is a thing of beauty!

Great Chain

Upgraded to this chain after I snapped mine. Make sure to open the package carefully as there is a small package with a connector pin inside that you need. Also make sure to size the chain right before connecting the chain with the pin. Very happy with this chain so far, have about 20 rides on it and it is still running smooth.
