Rocky Mountain Altitude 50 AL Bike - Women's - 2009

Throwing convention to the wind, Rocky Mountain broke new geometric ground with the Altitude 50 AL Women’s Mountain Bike. By using a steeper seat tube angle than other all-mountain machines, the Altitude puts more power to the pedals so you can clean grueling climbs. Staying true to trail-bike flexibility, Rocky Mountain built the Altitude with a descent-friendly 69-degree head angle and a bump-consuming 140mm of front and rear wheel travel. This ride will inspire confidence when pointed downhill, and with features like narrow bars on the small models, Formula brakes, and a low stand-over height, the Altitude 50 AL is ideal for ladies who take dirt seriously.

  • Low stand-over height makes mounting and dismounting the Altitude in technical spots a breeze
  • HydroFORMed seat tube has integrated front derailleur mount for precise shifting
  • High volume FOX RP3 for a plush, linear spring rate
  • Fox Float 32 RL 15mm QR for steering precision
  • XT rear derailleur and SLX shifters snap through the gears
  • Race Face cockpit keeps weight down and strength up
  • WTB Deva women’s saddle provides on the bike comfort

Bottom Line: A high climber and fast defender.

My wife is 5'7" with approx. 30" inseam and was wondering if 16.5" is the right size for her? Can anybody help with sizing for this bike?

This will be the right size for her. She will have just over 2 inches of stand over height, and the reach (top tube length) is in the ball park.

LOVE IT

This bike is such a sweet ride. I had a Cannondale F400 hardtail, so going to this is going to feel nice, but this bike made me feel like I knew what I was doing. I am 5'4" and got the 16.5. Almost perfect fit. I need the seat to go down a bit farther for serious downhill rides, but that can be fixed with a saw. I live in West TN so not a lot of technical riding, but I can hit more jumps with this than I would have tried on my Cannodale.
