Say yes to the POC Hip Short and no to hip surgery—POC’s technical dynamos bring you VPD material that meets the highest level of certification from the CE 1621-2 motorcycle standard for maximum protection on the mountain. VPD material covers your lower spinal region and diffuses the impact in case you get bucked out of the saddle. Coolmax-covered seat padding wicks away moisture and dries quickly to keep you comfortable as you tear up the trail.
Bottom Line: Because a broken coccyx is only funny to say—not to have.
am i right in thinking there is a chamois in this product that will work for agressive XC with a little dirt jump throwen in? if so ill place my order right now.
I have used these for a month and wear a medium in most shorts and the medium fit is great. The coverage is well placed for my sports injury (broken hip, internally fixed) and the shorts are comfortable under my baggy mtb shorts, which is not the case with other protective shorts I've tried. They are breathable, considering they have protection for the hips, tailbone, and handlebar goring incidents. I've not had to evaluate the crashworthiness but the hip padding is a firm outer shell (not as hard as full plastic) with good padding under the shell. They feel good enough to wear for 1 hr rides as 5 hr rides, which is the point - if you don't wear them, they can't protect you.
While these pants can be worn as your only leg layer, they're probably best as under-shorts; the side panels are fairly transparent, great for exhibitionists, not so great for the more modest among us. Still, they're a riff on cycling shorts -- they have a synthetic chamois and should be worn next to the skin, and leg grippers hold the legs in place.
I saw that link but it is going by body length -- these are shorts. That doesn't seem like a reasonable guide -- body length might not have much relationship to my waist size
These shorts are killer for skiing! Super snug, athletic fit that can't be seen under your clothes. The 09/10 snow short will be the same as this. There are no performance differences between a POC short listed for snow vs dirt. If there is a bummer at all it's the lack of a fly. Kinda have to disassemble if you're gonna water any trees...
