Northwave Bike Raptor S.B.S. Mountain Bike Shoe - Men's - 2009
The carbon-reinforced Northwave Men’s Raptor S.B.S. Mountain Bike Shoe tears down the singletrack like it means business. A reinforced carbon soleplate makes the most of your energy by transferring straight to the pedal rather than losing it to flex. The locking S.B.S. closure strap holds your foot in place as you tear around the singletrack and a formidable tread digs its teeth into the dirt when you need to hit the ground running. Durable synthetic leather withstands a season of mud and grime while ventilated mesh keeps your feet cool.
Bottom Line: Reinforced carbon increases your power output.
I'm a wide size 11 - the 45.0 fits great. Wore these in a 50 mile hike-a-bike race out of the box. Secure and great for rambling. No more numb feet. Highly recommend these for mtb or road. I couldn't imagine a better shoe than this for only $89 bucks.
I have a 45.0 size foot and in trying these on i would highly suggest that if you have a narrow foot that should'nt even look at north wave they are wide really wide If you dont go a half size down you will slip right out of them. The stiffness that you get from the reinforced carbon is almost perfect a little bit more would make these shoe almost perfect . I could fit in a 44.0 if i wanted but the half size will be the best after stretching. Great shoes will take the beating of everyday or that once an a while ride great all over shoes i give it five stars and would recommend then to anyone who wants to step it up.
Great shoe. Questionable Northwave size chart conversion. Make sure you know what your size is before you buy. I wear a 9 1/2 - 10 shoe but ended up getting a 43.5. Love the buckle system and the ease of no laces. Solid shoe when off the bike and hoofing. Great ventilation, stable platform, and no complaints so far.
really??? Every review (including the ones below) I've read on these shoes says they're at least half a size too small from what is suggested on their chart. Well, if the one's I ordered don't fit I'll send them back promptly, I guess for the 42.5's.
I've had these for about 1 1/2 months and have put about 200 miles on them so far. I had an old pair of 661s that I wore for about 4 years and these are definitely stiffer soled, but not overly so. They seem to have a real nice balance of comfort and stiffness and with the Utah weather turning cold (in the high 40s low 50s) I like the venting because it isn't so free flowing that you freeze your toes off. The toe box is pretty big compared to my 661s or even my roadie Northwaves and the sole inserts could use more arch but thats pretty normal.
I have been riding with sidi's 400 dollar shoes for over ten years and just always bought the same shoes, or the upgraded version every other season. I started getting numbness in my left foot really bad in the last year. Same thing on every bike. Road, cross, fixie, mountain all the same and I had the same shoes just road and mountain version. Changed everything. Switched bikes, switched position etc.... Of course the last thing is always the thing that works. At less than half the price you get the same features and the ratcheting seems to work better. The toe box is considerably wider. Which is good for me. They do run a little bigger than Sidi. A half a size to a whole size depending if you use insoles, but half size should do it.
Really happy with these so far. Comfortable, great closure system. Sizing wise these do have a bit more volume than most (which is great in my opinion). However, the northwave sizing chart may be a bit off. I wear a 10-10.5 wide shoe. I picked up a 43.5 and 44 and sent the ones back that didn't fit. The 43.5 was a shade too short, the 44 just a tad too long. But I went with the 44 and added a nice insole (powerfeet standard) and could not be happier. The buckle closure system and microadjust ability is just outstanding. I picked up the 44's for 90 bucks and they are the best MTB shoes I've owned.
Go ahead and get some, particularly if you have a slightly wider foot.
tried 2 different pairs to match US size 13 (46 and 48). Both were narrow and did not have enough room in the toe box. Seemed like a well built shoe with good closure system, but could not find a size that worked for me.
