Michelin XCR Road Mountain Tire - 2008

Commute like a demon or train for the Sea Otter Classic with the slick XCR Road MTB Tire. This fast, treadless 26-inch mountain bike tire gives you ultimate cornering power on asphalt, making it ideal for city riders, messengers, and that tiny slice of the MTB crowd who race on the road. Put the XCR Road Tire on your cross-country MTB wheelset and rack up some serious street mileage, or make your 26-inch cyclocross bike the beefiest in the ‘hood with these 1.4-inch diameter slicks.

Bottom Line: Trim off the treads and hit the pavement with the Michelin XCR Road MTB Tire.

Lot's of miles on this tire, 0 flats!

By:

Here are tech specs not on the backcountry description.
Casing: 66tpi
Inflation Range: 36-87 PSI

I bought these tires for the RAGBRAI ride across Iowa. By the end of training and the ride I had put 1200 miles on the tire and they still looked good. I have since used them another 1500 miles and they have held up but are ready for replacement. Amazingly, I have never had a flat with this tire and I have literally picked chunks of glass out of the tread with a screwdriver. So something is built right here with the 66 tpi casing.

The rubber is quality and I have become comfortable cornering with this tire on the road with both wet and dry conditions.

Combine this tire with a light weight tube and you will notice a huge difference from the low rotational weight. Use a proper sized tube because if you exceed the PSI range you will have a problem with a tube that is too large. The only knock I have on this tire is the 36-87 PSI inflation range. Other 26 inch road tires like the Fat Boy from Specialized can be inflated to 100 PSI which is great for that low rolling resistance.

This also makes a great trainer tire.

Looks weird but who cares

These tires are Awesome!! It makes your mountain bike look a little weird but who cares. I feel like I am on a road bike with these tires because they have very little rolling resistance, but you also feel like you still have the mountain bike stability. These tires are also really grippy and do not slide out. I have rode over lots of glass and rocks and no popped tubes yet. Great Tire!!

This tire is a 1.4, so a 26 x 2 size tube will be a little tight but you can make it work. If the tire is a little tough to get on the rim I would suggest a 26 x 1 to 1.4 tube. This way it won't pinch the tube as easily while you're prying the tire on to the rim.You want a size specific tube, I used a standard tube out of desperation and had problems.

Great Road Tire

I use these when I ride to work on a mountain bike. Got 26 x 1.6/2.1 40mm tubes which fit just fine, inflated to about 50 PSI, very grippy! Looks like they will last a long time. They make my bike look like a Supermoto. Love them!

Bad to the bone

By:

These tires are the sickest. They are a waaaay darker grey then they are in the picture, so they look more normal then they thought they would...a good thing. Construction and quality feel 5-star, and the speed is big. My mountain bike has become my commuter, and these were a perfect, well priced addition to the conversion. I've put about 100 miles on them this week and I'm uber happy with them. Pick them up.

I like it.

I bought this tire for my mtn. bike because my gnarly knobby tire was super loud on my bike trainer. It is a lot quieter but it looks so funny on a full suspension mtn. bike. They are bigger than a road tire but it makes you look silly. The color of the grey is way darker than the photo. It is just a little lighter than the black and not as light as the photo shows. It would be great to cruise the road in silence.
