Maxxis Minion DHF Downhill Tire

Maxxis designed the Minion DHF Downhill Mountain Bike Tire based on the burly conditions found on NORBA downhill courses. Ramped knobs provide low rolling resistance when you're pinning it down the straights, and channeling helps you stick when you're railing corners in the trees. Though Maxxis designed the DHF specifically as a front tire, many racers switch between using it on both wheels and pairing it with a DHR on the rear to match course conditions.

  • Tire Durometers: Higher the number the harder the compound, softer durometers grip better, but wear out faster
  • 60a: Better traction, higher rolling resistance
  • ST or 42a: (Super Tacky) Highest levels of grip, fastest wearing – For downhill racing, freeride
  • 3C: (Triple Compound) hard center compound for low rolling resistance and long life, progressively softer compounds on the edges for higher grip when cornering
  • UST – Universal Standard for Tubeless – use in conjunction with UST rims

Bottom Line: Shave time from your next run with help from Maxxis.

grippin rubber

these tires are sweet, I recommend the 3c version for they offer the best combo of grip, and durrability. I use this front tire on the rear as well cause I had heard that many DH racers liked it for both weels and I would agree, the grip and cornering of these tires is amazing. A pair lasted me all season and I tend to ride on quite a bit of loose rock and rougher terrain here in Utah, and they took a beating before they wore out.

(note) I got a slice in my sidewall when the tire was fresh, I cleaned it up, applied a layer of shoe goo, and the tire held up for the rest of the year!

Gripper and Ripper

Minions hook up. Rocks, loose over hard pack these things eat it up. They don't shed mud as well as high rollers but thats why they make mud tires.

Sweet and Gripy

These tires are great on hardpack, loose sand, wet and sloppy, and everything in the middle. They always bite hard when you get on them, and predictable when they start to let go.

For resort riding: Run a DHF in the front and the back - you'll be out-cornering everyone.

Hands down please.

I'll never ride another front tire. Best for fast riding in all conditions. The pair I have now is a 2.7 in a 3C and these grip very well but do not last long at all. After about 4 days of riding DH on chairs, the tread is torn up. I'm going back to 60a because they last so much longer. 60a right off the bat feels "is" faster, and still grips really good. This might sound like a repeat to what maxxis says but at least you now some one out there confirms this.

Maxxis Minion DHF 26 x 2.7 3C

Great Tire! Grips well in the turn and has a predictable slide. Works well front with a 2.5 or 2.7 and rear as a 2.5. I run the Steel Bead version tubleless and this works great with a little Stans.

Great as a front or rear tire in the 26x2.5 3C. I use this tubeless with some Stans on Mavic 823 for my rear tire when I want a little more slide from the rear. Great Tire!

ridiculous grip, this will stop you dead no matter what. with a minion DHR/DHF setup i've got zero grip worries. couple things to note tho:

these BARELY cleared my '04 DJ3 fork to the point where they ate through the paint inside the crown over the years. The fork says it'll fit a 2.8 but the 2.7's were really pushing it. check for clearance issues. also there's ridiculous rolling resistance if you're pedaling around, so if youre a retard like me and take your DH bike on urban runs without swapping rims/tires you should prbly look elsewhere. or just man up and think of it as a form of resistance training.
