Maxxis High Roller Downhill Tire

Ideal for both downhill racing and freeriding, the Maxxis High Roller Downhill Mountain Bike Tire features aggressive ramped tread that sticks to the trail like glue and sheds mud with the best. These 2-ply tires include Butyl sidewall reinforcements to improve durability and reduce the chances of having to walk a trail after blowing out a tire on a long shuttle ride. Whether you're riding loose flour, deep mud, or rocky gnar, these Maxxis tires perform.

  • Tire Durometers: Higher the number the harder the compound, softer durometers grip better, but wear out faster
  • 60a: Better traction, higher rolling resistance
  • ST or 42a: (Super Tacky) Highest levels of grip, fastest wearing – For downhill racing, freeride
  • 3C: (Triple Compound) hard center compound for low rolling resistance and long life, progressively softer compounds on the edges for higher grip when cornering
  • UST – Universal Standard for Tubeless – use in conjunction with UST rims

Bottom Line: Pinning berms or sending road gaps—this tire does it all.

These tires are great on hard pack dirt jumps. They roll fast on rhythm sections. Not so good for loose dirt, mud, gravel or loomy beat up DH trails because these tires are not too meaty.

The hardness (or durometer) of the tire is what those numbers mean. The higher the number (e.g. 60a), the harder and more durable the tire. Lower durometer (e.g. 40a) rubber is super grippy, but wears quickly. The 3C is a triple-compound (hard underneath, 42a center, 40a sides), and the ST is Super Tacky Rubber (40a). Keep in mind that these are all steel bead tires, which is kind of a pain to work with in my opinion [not in mine-RFdeL]. You can read all the marketing hype straight from Maxxis:http://www.maxxis.com/products/bicycle/product_detail.asp?id=80You can read-up on durometer here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Durometer
