The Maxxis ADvantage excels in rough cross-country terrain with a high-volume cross-section and aggressive tread. Designed by Team Luna leader and National Champion Alison Dunlap, the ADvantage is like a lightened downhill/all-mountain tire, with ramped center tread blocks and a single-ply casing for decreased rolling resistance. If you’re seeking a superduperlight, super fast race tire for hard, open singletrack, you might want to look elsewhere, but if you get down and dirty on rocky, steep, and technical XC terrain, or you chew up heavy gravel, there’s nothing better out there. In the 2.4 it’s perfect for your all-mountain 6-and-6 setup. The 2.1 eXCeption has a light(er) 120 tpi casing and 62a rubber for race days. And hey, if Alison wins races on it, so can you.
Tire Durometers: Higher the number the harder the compound, softer durometers grip better, but wear out faster
70a: Hardest compound for maximum tire life, lowest rolling resistance
60a: Better traction, higher rolling resistance
3C: (Triple Compound) hard center compound for low rolling resistance and long life, progressively softer compounds on the edges for higher grip when cornering
Exc: (eXCeption Series) Combination of 62a compound and a 120 TPI (threads per inch) casing, 120tpi offers lower rolling resistance, higher flexibility(better handling) and lighter weight – recommended for racing.
UST – Universal Standard for Tubeless – use in conjunction with UST rims
I've ridden this tire for nearly a month now as a rear tire in 2.25" width with the 60a compound. The tire has been used in every condition; mud, hardpack, loose gravel, you name it. This tire seems to shed mud well and will rail turns with confidence with it's stiffer knobs. The tread design does good in loose gravel as well.
Only problem I have discovered is that the tire is more prone to pinch flats if you are running tubes than some other tires I have used. However, with these tires I have better traction at a higher tire pressure than I did with lower pressure on the other tires.
I'm going to be moving to Vermont in the fall (from Utah) ... is this a good tire for the Northeast? I ride a Yeti 575 running some Maxxis Minion DHf (stock tires) 26 x 2.35.
These are my favorite XC and all mountain tires. They clear mud pretty well unless it is really sticky. These tires corner very well, they are predictable and stay in traction. They run true to the listed size. I think these tires are great for north east single track.
This is the tire for you. The ADvantages have great traction, cornering and they clear mud really well. I run these in a 2.1 and a 2.4 in NE and love them.
This Tire is great. True to size as well which has not been so for Maxxis in the past. I have the 26x2.4 3C and run tubeless. Works great. Good Grip, predictable slide, good braking bite. Great, versatile tire.
From riding in the park to shredding on the trails, these are great all around tires. The are pretty lightweight and I recommend running them tubeless because they just rock that way. Definitely one of the better "all around" tires out there.

This is a great all-around tire that holds the trail well for Wasatch area XC , dirt jumping, and light DH. The non-tubeless version works great as tubeless on DT Swiss 5.1 rims. They call them 2.4 but they feel like 2.5.
