Maxxis Ignitor Tire - Clincher

The Maxxis Ignitor Mountain Bike Tire's wide spaced tread sheds mud and rocks like mad, so you can rip in full-on mank without your bike gaining weight every five feet. Pentagon-shaped nobbs and a medium tread compound help you corner well in a wide range of trail conditions. With many World Cup victories under its belt, this Maxxis tire gets the job done on race day.

  • Tire Durometers: Higher the number the harder the compound, softer durometers grip better, but wear out faster
  • 70a: Hardest compound for maximum tire life, lowest rolling resistance
  • UST – Universal Standard for Tubeless – use in conjunction with UST rims

Bottom Line: Sheds mud like you never thought possible.

light, grippy, and fast

i have these in 29" and they rock. had nevegals and i thought maybe id see more flats with these, but no way. these ignitors are sick! go low pressure and stick to everything. i have them on some stans flows (wide rim) and never had a pincher. i ride mostly technical stuff with lots of rocks and roots here. not a lot of big climbs or descents.

Maxxis Ignitor - Great Grip, Fast Rolling; Lighting up Singletrack

By: Hucknroll.com Employee
September 7, 2009

I bought the Maxxis Ignitor Mountain Bike Tires after they were recommended by KC (see his review below) and after riding them for a few hundred miles, I am very impressed with their performance. I'm running the 70a, 26x2.10 Tubeless with the Shimano WH-M778 front wheel on my Yeti ARC and for me, it is the perfect front tire. From Utah to Oregon, I have encountered various trail types and soil compounds this summer - the Maxxis Ignitor has provided great cornering grip, minimal rolling resistance and zero flats (so far), regardless of the trail conditions.

My bike uses 26x2.00 tires, Will 26x2. 10 work?

Yes, a 2.1 will work. You can use almost any width tire if you have the frame clearance.

Park City Goodness

By: Hucknroll.com Employee
March 2, 2009

For trail riding in Park City it's hard to beat this tire. Rolls fast and corners on rails. 26" or 29", my tire of choice. I wish they offered the 29 in a 2.35, though.

Super sticky...

Great tire...hooks up on everything. It's great in sand, mud, and holds it's own on hardpack. A couple downsides are that they're a little heavier than some and they lose all tacky-ness when it's cold outside...definitely a warm-weather tire.

This tires grip as good as any when it comes to dry, loose terrain- and flat out kill it on the tacky trails. These are definitely my favorite rubs

great mtb tire!

tires are relative.... the performance is compared to your previous tire, your previous tire size.

these tires roll easy, grip and climb well, and absorb the bumps well.

I bought the larger 2.3 inch size, and they feel large, balloony, and not a lot of sidewall stiffness, so they have lateral play.

i am comparing to a Nevegal, and will say the nevegal is a great tire, more stiff, and better at cornering.

I like the maxis ignitor. These tires are reasonably light and they climb well.
