I am a XC rider\ racer from Colorado and have used egg beaters for a number of years. I got the Looks because I wanted a light weight pedal with a decent platform. The beaters were getting sloppy and I wanted a pedal with better energy transfer. The Quartz feel stiff under foot and it seems I am mazimizing my pedal stroke more efficiently now.
I read the generation 1 pedals caused a lot of inadvertent unclipping. The ones I bought from Huck were 2nd gen (metal bar across the axle). I did accidentaly clip out, once, at high speed though, as I bunny hopped over a rock. We will see how they hold up under race intensity. But after two rides I give them a thumbs up.
