Gore Bike Wear Alp-X Zip-Off Bike Jacket - Men's

Some days you ride and get way too hot in your jacket. Other days you pull on a windproof vest and your arms freeze. The GORE Bike Wear Alp-X Zip-Off Bike Jacket uses a WindStopper shell and zip-off sleeves to help keep your temperature just right. A slim fit means you can layer a fitted jersey under this jacket and avoid excess bulk, and pre-shaped elbows enhance comfort in cycling posture.

Bottom Line: A WindStopper jacket with stash-em sleeves.

sweet jacket

ive been riding with this jacket about a month or so now, 4-5 times a week. ive had it on in 38 degree and 55 degrees. its bomb proof! in the 30's, i wore a base layer, a riding jersey, and the jacket. it was a little cool until i started pedaling, then it was just perfect. the zip off sleeves are a Huge plus, in case your out on the trail and the sun comes out, just zip em' off. i dont know if any jacket could stand up to heavy rain, but in a light drizzle or mist, this jacket keeps my surprisingly dry. so far it has stood up to my abuse well. taken a few tumbles with it and no worse for the wear. i wear medium but i ordered the XL because i like it a little loose. anyway, awesome jacket and highly reccomended.......later

Hello; few questions...my chest is at about 39.5''-40''

Hello; few questions...my chest is at about 39.5''-40'' - i prefer tighter fitting clothes in general and find that i'm usually smack in between medium and large for shirt sizing - typically, i go with medium. do you think this jacket would be too tight in size large? also, i'm 6'2'' for concerns of length.

another question i had was about the warmth of this jacket. i live in western PA and we get a lot of pretty cold winter weather. is this jacket suitable for temperatures in the 30F's? i've looked everywhere and can't find any definitive info. on this aspect of the jacket.

thanks in advance for your time and consideration.

I just measured my Alp-X Zip Off Jacket sample which is a size Large and the measurements, laying flat, are:
22" - armpit to armpit
23.5" - armpit to end of sleeve
26" - length (where shoulder meets neck to front bottom hem

As for your questions about warmth, this jacket is purely a shell and has no insulating value. Therefore, you'll be able to adjust the "warmth" of the jacket by adding/removing a midlayer as well as adjusting the thickness of the midlayer. The WINDSTOPPER® fabric is totally windproof, breathable and highly water resistant. By not allowing the wind to reach the perspiration on your body, the wind cannot chill your perspiration which thereby keeps you warmer. We do not consider this jacket waterproof as it does not have waterproof zippers and is not seam sealed, however, water can not permeate the body of the jacket and the jacket is also treated with a durable water repellancy spray which keeps the face material of the jacket from absorbing precipitation.

Apl-X Zip-off

This is a quality jacket for MTB, probably the best. Fit is very tricky, I ordered L, but returned for XL, and the gloves run small, ordered XL--good fit. Zippers under the arms and behind the shoulders with complete sleeve removal makes excellent venting options. Used this jacket in 48 F temps with only lite underamour longsleeve and gloves, and was comfortable riding tempo. Cons: I would have liked a hood option.
