Geax Lobo Loco Mountain Bike Tire - 2009

Geax made the Lobo Loco Mountain Bike Tire to handle burly DH race courses, nasty freeride trails, and basically the mankiest of the mank. Square knobs provide incredible braking performance when you get into the steeps, and you can run this Geax tire with high air pressure to reduce the chance of a pinch flat. Or go with the UST option to do away with the tube all together.

Bottom Line: For the really rough stuff.

Alrighty, I'm ready to throw these bad boys on my bike and I pull out the user manual to check the PSI and I see a big ol 'UST' printed on the front. I ordered the Fold version since I don't have UST rims - is there any way I can tell on the tire itself if I have the UST or the Fold version? If I've got the UST I'll try a tubless kit just for shits and giggles.

The best indicator to look for is if the tire itself has "UST" written on the sidewall. If it has the UST logo on the tire, then it is, in fact, UST. If it does not have the UST logo on the tire, then it is not UST. As for folding, if it folds, then it is foldable. If it does not fold, then it is a wire bead tire.

Good general tire, horrible extreme tire.

I've done a few hundred miles on this tire so far and am generally pretty happy. The tire can be rotated one way for 'speed' and one way for 'traction'. I hardly ride anything super hard to climb (traction wise) so I put the rear on speed and the front on traction for bombing down single track. I've gotten some good rain rides and the tires worked pretty well until things got really slushy. The rear locks up on descents like mad but I'm a front brake guy so I don't really mind. I have lost both tires going through a muddy transition but once they hooked up I was on the correct trajectory and didn't feel like I was going to crash at any point. The rear was having a lot of trouble in some really thick mud and I simply was not able to make the climb. It took a 45 mph downhill on the road to get the tires really clean again. They're also pretty slick on wet pavement so be careful if you have to road-ride to the mountain.

Overall? I really can't complain for the price. If you're into really nasty mud climbs I'd steer clear, but I've been happy more than not.

Lobo Loco is crazy delicious

I've been using the TNT version of these tires ever since they came out two years ago. With TNT you save 100g per tire over UST. They work great on tubeless rims. Rolling resistance is good, traction is good, and they last a good long time -- 5 stars!

Geax does not provide information like ply for their tires. They use different technologies for their casings. Each tire option has a different specific casing. Here is a link for the differences.

my first GEAX brand tire. I like it so far. been using it mostly in the La Sal mountains. it gets good traction, and also roles really well on hard stuff. it's been pretty durable, but it has worn down in spots from skidding on slick rock.
